AFA Focuses on CPR-First Aid-AED Training

AFA Founder, Billy McGehee announced today that AFA will place a “HIGH PRIORITY” commitment on CPR-First Aid and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training. “CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training is and always will be extremely important to our ultimate goal of educating thousands of Athletes and millions of Americans to be better trained and prepared for emergencies, natural, manmade and day to day. However, it is the growing number of day to day emergencies that need our serious attention right now. With the slumping economy and the loss of more and more life saving professionals it is absolutely necessary for the Citizens of this Country to step up and get trained.” said McGehee.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest accounts for over 1,000 deaths everyday in America. That is over 360,000 individuals a year and over 1,000,000 worldwide. The American Heart Association states that for every minute that passes where a victim of sudden cardiac arrest is not treated their chances for survival drops 10%. After five to seven minutes without treatment the chances of survival are greatly decreased. Last year 95% of sudden cardiac arrest victims died. That is a staggering number. Drownings, car accidents, fires, and many other accidents that surround us daily claim thousands more. CPR, First Aid and AED training could save thousands of these lives.

“Every day we are surrounded by emergencies yet most of us are not willing to help either because of fear or more importantly, the lack of training. It is those first few minutes at the beginning of any emergency where a person’s life hangs in the balance and this is where we need to focus our efforts. We have definitely become a nation whose life line depends on dialing 9-11. This has to change and this must be done through education and training. That is why AFA is going to make CPR, First Aid and AED training a “HIGH PRIORITY” for each and every Athlete that we work with. Athletes are natural leaders and will engage if they are educated and trained. Our emergency professionals are trained to provide us with the best life saving skills known to man but they rarely can reach us in the first 2-3-4 minutes of an emergency. This is the space we need to train millions of Americans as our First Responders” added McGehee.
