What is AFA?

ATHLETES FOR AMERICA is a growing national network of athletes who are interested in helping Americans learn more about Homeland Security and emergency preparedness so that we as a nation can be better prepared to protect ourselves in any emergency situation.

ATHLETES FOR AMERICA was founded in late 2001 after the September 11 attacks by a former major league sports team President who realized that protecting our homeland was now going to require the help of all Americans and who better to get this message out than our athletes. As leaders and role models, our athletes are the perfect individuals to help educate America on Homeland Security information and emergency preparedness programs!

By now every American has heard the words Homeland Security but few actually understand what this means, how it impacts our lives, how to contribute and worse yet, how to prepare for future emergency situations. Even though we believe our federal agencies, military, state and local law enforcement officials are doing everything humanly possible to protect us, in the end it will be up to each citizen to become better educated and better prepared, not only for possible terrorist attacks, but for any emergency situation.

That is why ATHLETES FOR AMERICA was created. To become the leader in helping all Americans become more informed and better educated on Homeland Security issues and emergency preparedness. Our athletes will be working with local and state officials in communities all across this nation learning how to be better prepared and urging local citizens to do the same. At the same time our website will constantly provide vital emergency preparedness information as well as links to important Homeland Security websites. Our motto: PROTECT • SERVE • EDUCATE • MAKE A DIFFERENCE will become important words for American athletes. Athletes like Pat Tillman who believed playing sports was an honor and a privilege but protecting our Freedom, our families, our way of life was much more important.

On behalf of every athlete, young and old, amateur and professional, junior star and superstar, who believes that FREEDOM is our most precious gift and that protecting this gift will require each one of us to become more involved in our communities, more educated and prepared for emergency situations, more aware of our surroundings and above all else, willing to make any sacrifice necessary to protect our FREEDOM, we thank you and we welcome you to OUR TEAM, "AMERICA'S TEAM", ATHLETES FOR AMERICA!
